REVIEW – It’s been about two years since SoundPEATS launched an over-ear pair of headphones. Until now, with the recent release of the “Space”.

I was recently invited to try out these over-ear ANC headphones, so I happily accepted a free pair for my honest review of them.

Now, I’ve been using them for about a week now, but pretty consistently. I regularly listen to music and podcasts throughout the day, but I’ve been using the GoFree 2 for that.

So I decided to put those away for a while, and use the “Space” as my new go-to. It’s actually been a while since I’ve used a pair of on-ear, over-ear headphones….

Unboxing and First Impressions

The Space headphones are packaged very well. Here’s everything that you get in the box:

  • The Space headphones.
  • USB-C to USB-A charging cable with a 12″ length.
  • 3.5mm auxiliary cable with a 36″ length.
  • User manual.
  • App guide/pamphlet.

They took a mere 20 seconds to turn on and successfully pair with my phone. Pretty sweet!

After the first pairing procedure, they re-pair to your last device automatically, making it easy to connect every time you turn them on.

I was immediately enjoying them by shuffling through my Spotify playlist for 2 hours straight. Let’s start with what I love enjoyed most about them…

What I Liked

  • Incredible audio quality. I truly enjoyed the pristine, perfect balance of highs, mids and lows. The soundstage is well-sealed, vivid and clear – even when I cranked up the volume to its max. Bass is thumpy, heavy, and rich-sounding – just the way I like it! The default equalizer setting is honestly perfect, but the app lets you customize it to your hearts’ content.

  • Comfortable ear pads. The material is very soft, plush, and didn’t cause me to sweat. But I do feel that it’s durable and well made. The pads are a bit oversized – which is a good thing. They fully encapsulate my ears and effectively minimize any sound leakage.

  • Amazing battery life + very fast charging. SoundPEATS touts these headphones for being able to last for up to 123 hours. Since I started using them a week ago, I didn’t turned them off until they ran out of battery. At about 100 hours (4 straight days with ANC turned off) they died. While this isn’t quite up to the 123 hour claim, it’s darn good, in my opinion. Plus, charging is fast. For every 10 minutes you plug them in via USB-C, it equates to 10 hours of battery life.

  • Excellent wireless range. I found that there’s about 50 feet of wireless range before any lag or delay occurs. I could be on one end of my house and freely listen to them without any interference. The Bluetooth version 5.3 seemed to adequately send/receive the signal with ease.
  • Physical control buttons. It was great to have actual, physical buttons to press rather than touch controls. They’re tactile, responsive and firm when clicked, which makes adjusting the mode very straightforward.

  • App works great. I’ve had quite a bit of experience with the SoundPEATS app through the years. I’ve got to say – the app works better than ever. It lets you control the sound, precisely, with equalizer presets and custom settings for all sorts of things. Best of all, it doesn’t crash or freeze like some apps do.
  • Great build quality. They’re lightweight yet they don’t feel overly cheap. All of the joints, hardware and pivot-points are functional and high-end feeling.

  • Three different color options. I’m glad to see that SoundPEATS makes the Space headphones in 3 different colorways. Although I received the white version, there’s a black and beige option that do look very enticing. Sure, there’s no vibrant color options, but for what there is, I think they look great.

What I Didn’t Like

  • No protective hard case included. Unfortunately, there’s no carrying case or even storage pouch included in the box. For over-ear headphones, this would be a nice inclusion, so it was honestly a bit of a letdown when I didn’t find one in the box.

  • Too much pressure. I feel like the band is too tight around my head, when I wear them for over an hour or so. I’ll admit – I do have a pretty big head, so they may be just fine for others. I understand that these are ANC headphones, and having a tight fit may be better for sound, but they started to give me a headache after a while. I had them adjusted all the way open, but it still I attributed this to the headband’s excess pressure it seems to have.

Would I Recommend Them?

Yes, I would for most people. The SoundPEATS Space sound amazing, they’re easy to use, and seemingly well-made. But for those with a big cranium, you might think twice for long listening sessions.

Although I really loved the way they sound, appear, and feel – I think that I’ll be gifting these away for Christmas. With my big head, they just aren’t for me.

But for those who know they wouldn’t mind the tight fit, or simply have a small to average-sized head, you may want to think twice.

They’re $79.99 right now on Amazon, with a digital 10% off coupon. That pricepoint is about what I’d expect them to cost. They’re great, overall.
