In-Depth Review of the PARTU BS-10 Air Purifier

If you’re like most Americans, you’re probably concerned about the air quality inside your home. In these times of heightened stress, many people are looking for ways to improve their health. But indoor air quality isn’t just an issue for today. Indeed, it’s been a problem for some time. Why is this the case?

Our indoor air quality has suffered because of our wise choices in home construction, primarily energy efficiency. Take our windows, for example. If your windows were produced in the last few decades, they’re almost certainly double-paned. They’re also heavily sealed against any air infiltration. Similarly, your doors are sealed with weather stripping, and your walls are heavily insulated. This is all good for the planet and your energy bill, but it prevents air exchange with the outdoors. And most Americans are running heat or air conditioning most of the year. This means your opportunities to crack a window are limited.

This means your indoor air quality will suffer. Mold spores, pollen, and other contaminants will continue to circulate instead of getting flushed out by fresh air. Even your furniture can put you at risk. Wood furniture can release polyurethane, while upholstery can outgas chemicals like formaldehyde. These can cause significant problems for people with sensitivities like asthma. And even otherwise-healthy people can always benefit from cleaner air.

Today, we’ll be looking at the PARTU BS-10 Air Purifier. This is a mid-sized air purifier that’s designed to keep a single room clean. But there are many similar purifiers available on the market, and not all of them are worth buying. We’ll go over the BS-10’s features, how it’s used, and what it can do for you. Then, you’ll be equipped to make your own decision.

Design & Construction

The PARTU BS-10 measures 17.6 inches high, 14 inches wide, and 8.2 inches deep. It’s constructed from black ABS plastic, with an easy-to-clean, glossy finish. The intake vent is located on the front panel, with a grid of circular holes. There’s a slot on the side of the front panel, which makes it easy to snap on and off. The sides have a ribbed design, with indentations at the top that function as handles. This makes it easy to carry, as does the low weight. The BS-10 tips the scales at only 7.45 pounds. All the corners and edges are rounded, so it won’t hurt much if you accidentally catch a toe on it.

The BS-10’s control panel is located on the top of the device. There’s a row of four LED lights on the left, indicating what mode it’s in: Auto, Silent, Standard, or Strong. To the right, you’ll find four soft touch buttons. The first selects the fan mode. The next two control the child lock and the light. Finally, there’s the power button. Behind the control panel, most of the top of the BS-10 is occupied by the outflow vents. They’re arranged in an oval pattern, which distributes clean air 360 degrees around your room.

Around the outside of the filter, you’ll see a bright LED ring. This ring illuminates automatically when your BS-10 is plugged in. It lends an attractive look to the filter, and makes it more stylish than your typical air filter. But it’s not just decorative, it’s also functional; it tells you how clean your air is. When the light is blue, your air quality is good. When it’s yellow, the quality is acceptable but not ideal. When it’s red, your air is, in PARTU’s phrasing, “terrible”. The light is bright, so it might cause you some trouble sleeping. Fortunately, you can use the Light button to turn it on or off.

As we’ve already mentioned, the BS-10 is a mid-sized filter. This makes it suitable for a variety of applications. However, you might be looking for a compact tabletop filter. Everyday Operation

The PARTU BS-10 has three different fan speeds, as well as an automatic mode. To cycle between these different modes, simply tap the Speed button repeatedly. On Auto mode, the BS-10 will automatically switch between different fan speeds depending on air quality. When the air is good, it will run at slow speed, quietly maintaining your air quality. When the air is merely acceptable, it will ramp up to standard speed, increasing filtration. If the air quality drops to “terrible”, the BS-10 will run at maximum power. This is a great power-saving feature, since you won’t constantly be running it at top speed.

Of course, you might not want to use Auto mode if you’re using the BS-10 in your bedroom overnight. The top speed is quite loud, about the same as a TV at normal volume. In that case, just cycle the BS-10 into Sleep mode. At this setting, it produces only 28dB of sound, literally whisper quiet. That said, using a lower speed is going to limit the BS-10’s effectiveness for larger areas. At full speed, it can cycle 200 cubic meters of air an hour, sufficient for 215 square feet of space. But even at lower speeds, it’s more than good enough to keep your bedroom clean.

If you need to treat a larger area, you’re going to need a beefier filter. To treat an entire apartment or floor of a house, consider the Airthereal Glory Days AGH550. It’s fairly large, but it’s capable of treating up to 750 square feet of air.

One thing the PARTU BS-10 doesn’t have is a timer mode. This means it’s either on or off. You can’t set it to run for a few hours before you go to bed or leave your home. This was disappointing, since many modern air purifiers have a timer. On the other hand, it does have a child lock. Press and hold the lock button for 3 seconds, and all the controls will be locked out. This will keep your kids from messing with the settings. To unlock the BS-10, press and hold the lock button for 3 seconds, and you can use the controls again.

The filter is rated to work for 950 hours. This should be sufficient for 6 to 8 months, depending on how often you run your filter. Obviously, the filter’s actual performance will depend on how dirty your air is. If you frequently cook with grease or there’s a smoker in the house, it will get dirty faster. If your air is relatively good quality, the filter will take longer to get saturated. By default, the BS-10 will alert you when the filter has run for 950 hours. When this happens, the Lock and Light buttons will begin to blink. Once you’ve changed your filter, just press both buttons simultaneously, and the timer will reset.

Filtration System

The PARTU BS-10 has a 2-stage filter system, much as you’ll see on many air purifiers. Once the outer grill has removed any large material like cat hair, the air will get sucked into the first stage. This stage is a standard True HEPA filter, with a familiar, accordion-style design. It’s engineered to remove 99.97 percent of airborne particles, which is in line with HEPA standards.

The second stage of the filter is made of activated charcoal. This isn’t designed to remove particulates. Instead, it removes chemical contaminants that may have snuck through the outer filter. Around the outside of the entire filter assembly, there’s a high-density foam sponge. This isn’t actually designed to filter anything. It’s designed to prevent air from seeping around the outside of the filter. This ensures that all dirty air gets filtered, instead of working its way out the top of the machine.

The BS-10 does not produce any ozone or anions. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. On the one hand, these particles are controversial, and have been linked to lung damage by some studies. On the other hand, they latch onto contaminants and cause them to drop harmlessly to the ground. If you want an air purifier that produces anions, check out the PARTU BS-08. What Does the PARTU BS-10 Air Purifier Remove?

The PARTU BS-10’s HEPA filter will remove any particles larger than 0.3μm. This includes pollen, mold spores, dust, pet dander, and dust mites. Pretty much any viruses will be filtered out, as will most bacteria. That said, most viruses are larger than this, so it does not remove airborne viruses. The carbon filter is designed to remove chemicals. Cigarette smoke and formaldehyde will cling to the surface of this filter stage. You’ll also eliminate bad odors such as cat urine and cooking smells.

Final Verdict

So, how well does the PARTU BS-10 stack up to other air purifiers on the market? In general, it compares fairly well. It removes just as many airborne particles as other True HEPA filters, as well as most chemicals and odors. So far, so good. The coverage area is fairly average. It’s enough for a large bedroom, a kitchen, or a mid-sized living room. That said, it’s not useful for treating your whole house. For that, you’re going to need a larger filter.

The BS-10’s other features are somewhat mixed. The lack of a timer mode is disappointing, and we would have liked to see one. On the other hand, the child lock was much appreciated. This makes the BS-10 a solid choice for anyone with small children. In addition, the sleep mode is exceptionally quiet. This means you won’t have any issues using it in your bedroom. The LED indicator is also a nice touch, since it lets you know what kind of air quality you’re dealing with. And the filter is relatively long-lasting. As a result, you don’t have to change your filter as often as you will with many other air purifiers.
